chamber history

The Putnam County Chamber of Commerce traces its roots back to 1907, when a group of local business leaders first organized to support and advance the Greencastle business community. By 1909, the organization had formally adopted the name Greencastle Chamber of Commerce. While it was officially incorporated in 1954, the Chamber had already spent decades serving as a catalyst for local business growth and community development.

In 1997, the organization became the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce, reflecting an expanded membership base and a growing regional impact. Most recently, in 2020, it was renamed the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce to better represent and strengthen the unity of businesses across all of Putnam County, reinforcing its commitment to countywide collaboration, advocacy, and economic vitality.

Today the Chamber serves as a voice, a business partner, a resource, and an advocate. We promote and support local businesses, foster community, and work to improve the quality of life in Putnam County.
